Every visual element was thoughtfully chosen through close engagement with the nursing staff to create a calming, nurturing atmosphere for families and caregivers.
The gentle countryside visual elements stretch horizontally, depicting the natural beauty of the Riverina region.
As the Murrumbidgee River is central to the Riverina, it winds through rolling hills, while native flora and grasses add familiar local touches.
The colour palette was specifically selected to align to the purple butterflies of neonatal care, with an analogous palette of soft mint greens, gentle lavenders, and calming blues creating a soothing visual experience that promotes wellbeing within the healthcare space.
The background features the region's characteristic wide horizons against a brightening sky, suggesting new beginnings.
To look closer, you * may * note a familiar (and healthy) heart rate monitor view, contained within the mountains and trees in the background.
All animals selected are familiar to those from the region, with the strategy being to depict the caring parent and child relationship.
This is displayed from the galah flying to greet her young in the top branch of the gum tree, to the turtles swimming next to each other, and (if you squint), you can see the young family feeding a family of hungry ducks in the background.
The overall style balances whimsy with serenity, creating an environment that supports both emotional connection and clinical care.
The modern illustrative approach combines naturalistic elements with an accessible, storybook quality that makes the space welcoming for families during challenging times.
